From sl.Wiki

PattiI never really wrote short sritoes most of my writing is part of novel-length pieces or is in essay form so I don't know if I'd feel that way about those shorter works, too. I can see how I might, though; many times, a short story, like a poem, comes in one big rush.I completely agree with your doing a disservice' comment. There was a distinct emotion behind the poem that caused those words to come. At least, that's how I write poetry. There are certainly people out there who can craft a poem, but I'm not sure that I'm one of them. And, like you, I wrote more when I was younger (and thus, more emotionally volatile, I think), so the strong emotional response that created the poems was right there, at the surface. I haven't been able to tap that part of me since I entered a long-term, stable relationship. Coincidence? I'm thinking no.
