Before you start editing articles in this wiki you need to know some things.
General
- Please create an account before you start. This helps you and us to keep track of all changes. Additionally some articles can only edited by members.
- You should know the MediaWiki specifc formats. You can find a short overview on the Wiki-refcard [1]. A complete list you can find in the MediaWiki Handbook [2].
- Sometimes its usefull not to edit an article directly in the browser but to use an external editor. For Windows the Crimson editor [3] is small, but has several advances over the Notepad editor (the search function, multiple documents etc.).
Article Naming
Article names consist of 3 parts:
- The namespace defines a section in our wiki where the article belongs to. See the list of recommended categories & namespaces for an overview including comments. Currently the following namespaces are defined:
- sl
- sl.Wiki
- sl.help
- RtCW
- ET
- ETQW
- FarCry
- The "real" name describes the topic of the article. Usually its written in the same language as the article.
- The country code identifies the language which is used for the article. We use ISO 3166-1 codes to identify it. Currently defined are:
- en
- de
- fi
These 3 parts are glued together by a colon and a forward slash. E.g. for an article about Enemy Territory (namespace: "ET") in English (code="en") which is called "Enemy Territory is cool" the full name would be: "ET:Enemy Territory is cool/en" (of course w/o the quotes). When someone translates this article into German and names it "Enemy Territroy ist toll", then the article name would be "ET:Enemy Territroy ist toll/de".
Article names should always be in singular, e.g. "Example" instead of "Examples". If you wish you can create a redirect page, e.g. from "Examples" to "Example" with a redirect command.
Templates
We use templates to categorize articles and for some special formats. The list of available templates lists all including example and a description. Remember that templates start with double opening curly brackets "{{" followed by the template name and possibly some arguments sepreated by pipe characters "|". The template is terminated by double closing curly brackets "}}".
